It’s time to celebrate the people who go the extra mile to make Mirfield a great place to shop, work and live.
The Reporter is teaming up with town champions MyMirfield for their first community and business awards – and we want YOU to tell us who deserves to take home a trophy.
We’re looking for the businesses, pubs and restaurants, plumbers and builders, and shops of all kinds who do their bit to make the town a better place.
It’s a chance to celebrate the Mirfield-based businesses, events and organisations that have made a positive contribution to the lives of local people or the community as a whole during the past year.
MyMirfield’s Richard Hartley said: “It’s an idea that came together towards the end of last year.
“We felt Mirfield isn’t very good at working together and talking about its successes, and we thought it would be good to bring people together in that respect.”
“We also wanted to do some fundraising. Some money will go towards supporting cyclist Jake Womersley – the grandson of Tour de France legend Brian Robinson – and some will go towards future MyMirfield events.”
MyMirfield plans to use its shared of any proceeds to fund banners and fliers for town events like the late night Christmas shopping sessions it co-ordinated last year.
Nominations for six of the seven categories are open now.
MyMirfield will announce the shortlisted nominees in our paper on March 13 when voting will also open.
The winners will be revealed during an awards night at Dewsbury District Golf Club in Mirfield on April 17.
The event will include a ‘posh’ raffle and auction for which donations would be welcome.
