Slideshow: A step back in time at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience

Complete with 47 stalls, 466 vehicles, 62 pieces of armour and 55 re-enactment groups, the outdoor show was back for an eighth successive year to once again show off several aspects of life and combat from conflicts in the 20th century.

Of particular interest to the hundreds who turned out was the exhibition of tanks and emergency vehicles, the same as would have been used by the Allied Forces in the Second World War.

Children from Whitcliffe Mount School were also given a demonstration of the sort of cooking and canteen facilities a typical Forces tent from the era would have had.

Also, there was an impressive Spitfire display, which entertained spectators throughout a 10 minute aerial appearance.

Co-organiser Stuart Wright said: “People came the first year and it snowballed because of course they go away and tell their friends and more and more end up coming. A show’s only as good as its last one.

“It was an amazing weekend, we were inundated with people. There’s only four of these kind of shows across England and we were the only one that managed to get a Spitfire display and the only such show to have an authentic World War One trench.”
