Spare a hound at Christmas

IT’s the season for giving, and one local business is asking shoppers not to forget homeless furry friends this Christmas.

Scruffs in Heckmondwike is asking for donations of pet food and accessories for stray cats and dogs over the festive period.

This is the 13th Feed a Stray at Christmas project for Scruffs manager Carole Taft, and the third one for the Oldfield Lane dog groomers.

Carole said: “We’re asking for donations of food for cat and dogs, as well as collars, leads, bedding – anything to help make a stray animal’s life a bit better at Christmas. The response we get from this appeal has always been absolutely brilliant.

“The first time we did it, we didn’t think we’d get very much, but we were inundated.

“Now people are sending us things all through the year for Christmas time.”

Scruffs collects donations for the last 10 weeks of the year, and will deliver the hamper to the Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue charity, which helps cats as well as canines, the day before Christmas Eve.

“People’s generosity is absolutely outstanding,” Carole added.

“We appreciate it so much.”
