Supercar owner's reward for Mirfield flood clean-up volunteers

Community-minded volunteers from Mirfield Round Table were rewarded for their relief efforts during the Boxing Day floods with the chance to drive supercars.

Huddersfield-based prestige car supplier Shak Shah offered three of his sporty motors to members of the club, which is open to men aged 18-45, and paid for them to enjoy an Indian platter-style meal at the Kabana restaurant.

The Round Table volunteers were praised for helping to clean up water-damaged homes and towns in West Yorkshire during the catastrophic floods last Christmas and businessman Shah, owner of Shak’s Specialist Cars Ltd, wanted to show his appreciation.

The group enjoyed a tour of the luxury showroom and the chance to get behind the wheel themselves as well as a bespoke halal meal alongside members of the Elland branch of the organisation.

Round Tables raise over £30,000 each year through their fundraising activities, which include organising the three largest professional fireworks displays on Bonfire Night in Kirklees and Calderdale. Members also take part in social activities including snow tubing and wheelchair basketball.

Chairman Ed Jandzio said:

“Round Table is the ultimate in normal guys doing extraordinary things both socially and in their communities. Many thanks to the team from Shak’s Specialist Cars for this memorable evening. We do not help the community to be rewarded, but it is fantastic to be recognised.”
