TAKEAWAY drivers are boycotting parts of Mirfield as they fear for their safety.

Delivery drivers say they have been robbed and attacked while working in the town.

In the early hours of Sunday, a delivery man reported being robbed in Old Bank Road and tied to a washing pole.

Thieves threatened him with a knife and got away with £300, a mobile phone and two silver chains.

Hosaa, who works for another takeaway in Mirfield but did not want his surname or business name published, said takeaway drivers had been targeted for the last three months.

He said: “There must be a gang involved because they are doing this to every takeaway in Mirfield.”

Mohammed Hussain, who works for Kashmir in Huddersfield Road, said one of his colleagues quit after he was attacked.

He said: “You have got to be vigilant, but you can’t wear a bullet-proof jacket. We have to provide a service.”
