Tate artist painting is top raffle prize

AN ARTIST whose work has been exhibited at Tate Britain has donated one of his paintings to a group of Mirfield churches.

Nigel Cooke presented Paris to Mirfield Team Parish at the opening of its 38th Annual Exhibition and Sale of Art.

The original oil painting comes from his Cityscape range of work which sell for up to £2,500 each.

But the churches are offering people the chance to win the painting for just £1 in a special raffle.

Church warden Ruth Edwards said: “In recognition of Nigel’s generosity, Mirfield Team Parish will aim to sell sufficient raffle tickets to match the value of the painting, but one lucky person has the opportunity to become the proud owner for just £1.”

The painting first went on view to the public at the annual art exhibition and sale, which was held last weekend.

Its is now on display at Lenscape Gallery in Huddersfield Road, where raffle tickets are available.

Tickets can also be bought from Ruth Edwards on 01924 492129 or any team parish members.

Proceeds the raffle will provide much-needed funds for the team parish, which includes St Mary’s, St Paul’s and St John’s in Upper Hopton.

The winning ticket will be drawn at a family fun day at St Mary’s on Saturday July 9.
