Teen girl assaulted in Birkenshaw phone robbery

A teenage girl was left traumatised after being pulled to the floor and robbed of her mobile phone in Birkenshaw.

The 17-year-old was in Moorhouse Lane at around 10pm on Wednesday April 24.

Police saw she was talking on her phone when she was approached by two men.

One of the men stood watch while the other assaulted her, pulling her to the floor before grasping her Blackberry Z10 mobile phone.

Both suspects then fled towards the main road leaving the girl distressed and with superficial injuries which needed treatment by a paramedic.

DS Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a cowardly assault involving two men on a lone teenager who was simply stood having a conversation with a friend.

“She has understandably been left very distressed by the incident and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at that time and witnessed what happened or saw two men nearby fitting these descriptions to come forwards and contact us.”

The first suspect was Asian in his late 30s, around 5ft 6ins to 7ins in height and of medium build, He had short black wavy hair and wore a mid length three-quarter length woollen coat on.

The second suspect was a little taller and slimmer and dressed all in black.
