Teenager dies after drinking beer, brandy and vodka

Huddersfield Coroners heard that Adam Wadsworth, of Walnut Crescent, Chickenley, was visiting friends of his family in the same road.

The 19-year-old consumed eight cans of beer, brandy and neat vodka at the kitchen table on the evening of February 10.

In a statement, family friend Natalie Gray said that Mr Wadsworth was slurring his words slightly but did not appear to be overly drunk before falling asleep.

Mr Wadsworth was slumped on the floor and appeared to be snoring before vomiting. Family friend Brian Barber then turned Mr Wadsworth over and noticed his lips were blue.

An ambulance was called and Mr Barber performed CPR on the teenager before paramedics took over. He was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital where he died.

Blood tests showed that Mr Wadsworth had consumed the equivalent of 11-and-a-half pints of beer.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Oliver Longstaff said that Mr Wadsworth died of acute alcohol poisoning.

He added: “He was simply having a good time with friends but unfortunately he drank too much than was good for him.”
