Teens sentenced for knifepoint robbery

The 17-year-old was one of three teens, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sentenced for robbery at Leeds Crown Court last Thursday.

The youth from Huddersfield appeared with two other boys, aged 16 and 17, from Hanging Heaton.

Prosecutor Georgina Coade said the victim, aged 17, was walking along Church Street in Huddersfield when he saw the defendants over the road.

The teens from Hanging Heaton knew him and one called him over, asking him to go buy some Rizla from a shop.

When he returned, the Huddersfield teen held a kitchen knife to his throat and demanded he hand over his mobile phone. The other youths stood either side of the victim, laughing.

He gave them his phone and was told he could have it back if he took the phone of a friend that lived nearby. It was from there he called police.

The Huddersfield teen pleaded guilty to robbery on May 29, and the two Hanging Heaton youths pleaded guilty to robbery on August 15.

The court heard the Huddersfield teen wanted to change his ways, and the pair had no previous convictions.

Judge Rodney Jameson QC sentenced the Huddersfield youth to a 12-month youth rehabilitation order.

The Hanging Heaton teens received a 12-month referral order.
