MIRFIELD was lit up in a blaze of colour on Saturday as the town’s Christmas lights were switched on.
The button was pressed by Harry Crowther, who was chosen as the town’s youngest ambassador earlier this year for his achievements in Scouting.
Harry arrived on Santa’s sleigh with Santa himself and Toby Scorah, who won the competition for the best dressed elf. Entertainment was provided by compere Andy Jay, singer Kelly Brazil and Mirfield’s Salvation Army band.
Deputy Mayor of Mirfield, Coun David Pinder, said everyone who went along to the switch-on had a wonderful time.
He said: “I would like to thank everybody who worked so hard for the event over the Christmas period, particularly the Brontë Society and Imelda Marsden, the West Yorkshire Print Workshop for running the best dressed elf competition and Dalby’s Traditional Sweet Shop who donated prizes for the competition, and Mirfield Co-op who very generously donated sweets for Santa to give out. I would also like to thank Howard Hardcastle and his staff who ran the fair, the stage and lights.”
