Tipsy cyclist in river fall

A WOMAN cyclist had to be pulled from the River Calder after falling into the water while the worse for drink.

She took a tumble near Newgate in Mirfield on Sunday morning.

Police were called, but luckily two members of the public were able to pull her to safety while waiting for officers to arrive.

She was back on dry land when police got to the scene at just after 11am.

A police spokesman said: “The woman was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

“But otherwise she was unharmed. She was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital for a check-up as a precaution.”
