He is now studying for his A-levels at Heckmondwike Grammar School.

To the delight of his family, friends, school teachers, and his Mosque, the Gomersal lad was also selected last year to represent Great Britain as part of the successful Informatics Computing Team which flew out to the Russian Federation for the 28th International Olympiad Games.

His award was also in recognition for the hard work put in during Maddrassah hours reciting the Koran in proper Arabic ‘Tajweed’ pronunciation.

Other local children from Dewsbury Moor were also in line to pick up lots of trophies at the awards ceremony.

Along with their trophies a number of pupils were also presented with brand new in-line scooters.

Headteacher at the Mohaddis-E-Azam Education Centre, Imam Moalana-Hafiz Faiz-Ur-Rahman, said: “It was a pleasure to recognise Basim’s numerous achievements during this year’s awards ceremony.

“The competition is always tough in the run-up to the awards day, but Basim Khajwal clearly shone out like a star to take the top trophy.

“All our children are a credit to the mosque.
