UPDATE: Two seriously injured after crash in Hanging Heaton

Two people are in hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Hanging Heaton last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision in Commonside at 7.56pm.

A Seat Ibiza was travelling towards the junction with Peter Hill when it hit a stationary Ford Ka and then a garden wall.

As a result of the incident two people in the Ibiza, a 16-year-old and a 26-year-old, were left with serious injuries.

Any witnesses to the incident or the way the Ibiza was being driven immediately before the incident are asked to contact the Southern Area Roads Policing Unit on 101.

Four ambulances and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were said to be in attendance as well as police and crews from Dewsbury and Batley fire stations.

Watch commander John Jackson said: “The car was upside down and had shunted the stationary vehicle around 20m or 30m forward.”

Two other people suffered less serious injuries.

All four were taken to Leeds General Infirmary by Yorkshire Ambulance Service after the air ambulance was unable to find a landing site.

Commonside was closed until after midnight but has reopened this morning.
