A fire broke out at a shop in Morley town centre this lunchtime (Monday).

Smoke could be seen billowing across the area.

Four fire crews attended to tackle the blaze at School Street.

It is believed to have started at the old funeral directors next to Leeds City College’s Joseph Priestley campus just before 1pm.

Watch Commander Stone of Morley Fire Station said crews were in attendance for around three hours.

He said workmen in the building discovered the fire, raised the alarm and evacuated.

There were no injuries but the second storey and roof of the building was gutted.

A spokesperson for Batley Fire Station said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.

Crews are no longer at the scene.
