Two men have been arrested after a string of “targeted attacks” in a Batley Carr street.

Armed police swooped on Conway Crescent on Saturday after reports of gun shots being fired.

They were called just hours after a car chase through the town, where a gun was brandished from a car window.

Police said the incidents were linked to a terrifying stun gun attack on a mum and son less than a week earlier.

Patrick Nicholson, 29, of Bradford Road, Cleckheaton, appeared before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with attempted robbery.

Nicholson was remanded into custody until a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on October 2.

A second man, from the Odsal area, is still being questioned by police.

Armed police were called to Conway Cresent after residents reported hearing gunshots at about 1.30am on Saturday.

Officers searched a property in the street but nobody was found.

Hours earlier police had received reports of a red Audi being pursued by a silver or grey Volvo along Upper Road at around 6pm on Friday.

One of the Volvo’s passengers was seen leaning out of the window with a gun but no shots were fired.

The chase continued into Halifax Road, narrowly avoiding a collision with other traffic, before going into the car park at Staincliffe Hospital.

The incidents came less than a week after two men burst into a house in Conway Cresent, threatened a 47-year-old mother and her 27-year-old son with a taser before beating them up.

Det Chief Insp Steve Snow, of Protective Services (Crime), said: “Following enquiries into recent linked incidents in Batley two men were arrested today (Wednesday) and remain in police custody.

“A 29-year-old man was arrested from an address in Cleckheaton and a 30-year-old was arrested from a property in the Odsal area of Bradford.”

Both men have also been questioned in relation to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, relating to two incidents that occurred overnight between Friday September 12 and Saturday September 13 in the Batley area.
