I-Sleep, along with a number of other firms, faced magistrates after a West Yorkshire Trading Standards investigation.

Kirklees Magistrates Court imposed fines and costs totalling £16,890 on multiple businesses across the north of England in relation to the importation, manufacture and supply of unsafe furniture.

Many consumer complaints had been received leading to concerns over the business’s practices.

I-Sleep Ltd, which has its registered address as Corporation Street, and its sole director Wajid Hussain failed to supply basic information when requested by Trading Standards to demonstrate the safety of the sofas and mattresses they were supplying.

Officials seized a number of items which then failed fire safety tests. Labelling on the furniture indicated it complied with safety standards, falsely giving consumers the impression that it was safe.

I-Sleep was fined a total of £2,200 and Hussain £2,200. Other companies involved in a complex franchising agreement with I-Sleep also appeared in court.

Coun Val Slater, Chairman of the Trading Standards Committee, said “This case showed a blatant disregard by those involved in the supply chain for the safety of consumers, potentially putting lives at risk. All businesses are required to ensure that products they manufacture or supply are safe.”
