Bank prevail in extra time to lift trophy

Old Bank WMC notched-up a league victory and won the Wakefield and District League Division 2 League Cup in a successful weekend of action.

A 4-1 home win over Horbury Town ended Bank’s Division 2 season, finishing third in the league, before they defeated Altofts in the Division 2 League Cup final.

Extra time was needed to separate the teams but it was Bank who netted the decisive goal in a 3-2 victory.

Division 1 champions FC Gawthorpe ended their campaign in fine style, defeating Wortley 7-2.

The comprehensive victory completes an unbeaten season for Gawthorpe, who won 17 of their 18 games and drew the other.

Dewsbury Rangers OB, who finished fourth, lost out 4-1 in their home game against second-placed Prince of Wales. Gareth Smith netted Rangers’ consolation.

In the Premier Division. Thornhill FC went down 8-2 at home to Fieldhead Hospital.

In Division 3, lowly Dewsbury Rangers OB Reserves lost 2-1 at Snydale Athletic Reserves with Louis Martin on target.

Bradford secured the Spen Valley League Premier title with a 3-1 win over Vision on Saturday.

In Division 1, BD3 United Reserves drew 2-2 with Savile United and Inter Batley lost 4-1 to Ravensthorpe Bulls, with Ashraf Navsarka on target for the hosts.

Bulls Head Dewsbury sank to a 3-0 reverse at Fairbank United Reserves and Heckmondwike Sports drew 2-2 at Norfolk courtesy of Jacob Hirst’s double.
