Boys and Moor praised for spirited cup shows

The Boys suffered a 34-10 defeat at home to Pennine League Premier Division giants Queens, while Moor pushed Norland all the way before losing 36-28 after extra-time.

Moor fought from behind to lead 22-20 deep into injury time when the home side levelled with a penalty.

The game was marred by a brawl after 35 minutes which saw two players from each side sent off.

Cameron Bruce sent winger George Croisdale over for the opening try in the corner but Norland responded with a converted try.

Croisdale leapt to gather a James Delaney kick to score his second try but again Norland hit back and two further tries saw them lead 16-8.

Teenage full-back Jacob Flathers got Moor back into the game with a sensational 85 metre run to the line for a try which he converted.

Moor had their best spell and after Jordan Pearson went close, Croisdale completed his hat-trick and then added a fourth try to put the Dewsbury side 22-20 ahead.

Norland hit back with a try wide out and then broke Moor hearts with a dramatic penalty five minutes into injury time.

Adie Moore and Tobias Richardson combined to put Croisdale over for his fifth try as Moor struck first in extra time, with Richard Squires converting.

Norland responded well to run in two unconverted tries to lead 30-22.

Norland also grabbed another try to clinch victory, although Moor coach Alan Samme was proud of his side’s display, as they fielded six players under the age of 20, who supported their more experienced teammates.

Batley Boys suffered early blows against Queens, who were quick off the mark to build a lead.

Batley replied with good work from the forwards and backs for Adam Bingham to score.

Josh Whitehead proved his worth by taking in the most drives for the team.
