Batley Boys DMR booked their place in the Heavy Woollen ARL John Kane Cup final thanks to a 44-28 victory over Thornhill Trojans A last Thursday.

A golden quarter hour early in the second half saw the Boys amass 26 unanswered points, in a match which had up to then been evenly balanced.

Batley had opened the scoring in the first minute of the game with a well taken try by stand off Dan Winner, converted by Mick Dyson.

Adam Bingham weaved his way through the Trojans defence to score Batley’s second try and Dyson’s conversion put them 12-0 up after just 10 minutes.

Thornhill weathered the storm with their forwards making penetrating drives which eventually resulted in Adam Hoyle making a powerful run from 10 yards out to score a try converted by Danny Fisher.

On the stroke of half-time Tom Holdsworth dived over from a play the ball and Fisher converted to send the sides into half-time level at 12-12.

Jayjay Price was introduced from the bench late in the first half and his turn of pace troubled the Thornhill defence.

Price received a pass 25 yards out and outpaced the defence to score, with Dyson converting.

Minutes later Price again figured in putting Winner over for his second try, followed shortly by another try for himself between the posts following a blistering 60 yard run.

Bingham chipped the ball over the defence, gathered and slipped a pass to send Mould racing between the posts.

Dyson landed all three conversions and added a penalty as the Boys led 38-12 after an hour.

As the game was drawing to a close Price took the ball from a play the ball 30 yards out, jinked his way through the defence to touch down between the posts for his hat -trick with Dyson again adding the conversion.

Thornhill never gave up and in the last minute Adam Hoyle got the ball 25 yards out, beat several would be tacklers and touched down for his second try.

Fisher converted but it was only a consolation as the Boys booked a cup final spot.
