Derby delight as Rose reach semi

Shaw Cross A 0

White Rose 28

WHITE Rose won the second derby game between these sides at Leeds Road to reach the semi-finals of the Yorkshire League’s CMS Alliance Cup.

Cross had won the league meeting 24-22 but there was no doubt this time as Rose produced outstanding teamwork to dominate and the home side were unable to break a strong defence in which two ex-Cross players, Josh Taylor and Glen Towey, were always prominent but the Rose man-of-the-match award went to the whole team.

The Rose team also included two newcomers, who settled well, and the side are improving each week and now look a real threat.

Danny Windle led the White Rose effort with a brace of tries, while Lewis Dixon, James Kent and newcomer Ricki Oldroyd also crossed. Goals were added by Ash Holdsworth and Danny Ainsworth (three) to complete the comfortable win.

White Rose are joined in the last four by Methley Royals, who gained a convincing 52-8 win away to Eastmoor Dragons A, while Northallerton defeated Heworth A 56-12 in a delayed Alliance Cup preliminary round tie last Saturday.
