Dewsbury among Wildcats’ options for groundshare

DEWSBURY’S Tetley’s Stadium is understood to be one of a number of venues under consideration for a groundshare with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Dewsbury have confirmed that Wakefield have made initial enquiries but Trinity have also spoken with Castleford Tigers about sharing their new ground at Glasshoughton and Featherstone Rovers.

Wakefield’s option of moving to Barnsley FC has been rejected by Super League but another option could be to re-develop their current Belle Vue site, although the Wildcats do not own the ground and would face having to pay rent.

Rams chairman Mark Sawyer confirmed that the Wildcats had been in touch, adding: “A grounshare with us is one of many options Wakefield are looking into.

“We have a big stadium which is unutilised a lot of the time and we have always said we need someone else in with us to help with the running costs.

“Our preferred option would be to share with a local football club but if Wakefield came along it would be something we could look into but only if it benefited Dewsbury.”
