Esders ensures Ramssecure crucial points

DEWSBURY Rams earned a fine away victory last Friday to keep pressure on the top six in the Co-operatrive Championship.

It was a nip and tuck game as the Rams led 10-0 at half-time only to fall 18-10 behind as York stormed back after the break.

Dewsbury battled back late on to snatch a deserved win which leaves them seventh, four points behind Keighley.

After a cagey opening, centre Ryan Esders opened the scoring against his former club and Patch Walker added the conversion.

Walker’s lovely short pass then sent impressive full-back James Craven racing over soon after and it remained 10-0 at the break.

York came out firing at the start of the second half and Tom Bush inspired a fightback when he broke from acting half-back and raced the length of the field for a spectacular try which Chris Thorman converted.

John Davies scored two minutes later before Thorman crossed and he added both goals to turn the game in York’s favour.

Rams scrum-half Scott Spaven dummied his way over and Walker converted before Craven was on the end of a fine passing move to score his second try at the corner.

Walker landed a magnificent touchline goal to put the Rams 22-18 ahead before centre Ayden Faal scored Dewsbury’s fifth try and Walker added another terrific goal to seemingly seal victory.

York weren’t finished and Davies scored his second try three minutes from time, which Thorman goaled, but Esders ensured there would be no late drama as he added his second try from the game’s final play.
