Liversedge dig deep to face Miners

The Clayborners will be keen to avenge a 1-0 NCE League Cup defeat by the Chesterfield side last month.

After that defeat, to a goal scored in the 90th minute, Liversedge boss Billy Miller declared, anyone finishing above Staveley will be champions and he hasn’t changed his mind .

“They are a good side and they will be a strong test for us, we gave them a good run for their money in the cup and we will be aiming to pull off a shock tomorrow.

“The difference between Staveley and many of the other teams in the division, including us, is that if things aren’t going as well as they had hoped in January they have the finances to change things.”

Liversedge will be in a stronger position than last week when they had eight players missing. They only had two substitutes for the trip to Lincoln Moorlands Railway, one of them was goalkeeper Danny Knight, who did not disgrace himself in midfield. Liversedge had to settle for a 2-2 draw after an action-packed finale.

“We thought we had won it when Joe Jagger scored in the last minute. But they scored from the kick-off as we were still distracted by the goal,” explained Miller who rued the loss of the points.

He was full of praise for Damian Hopkins who played at the heart of the defence.

“When he joins up with Leachy (Daryl) they will be formidable,” warns Miller.

He is also pleased with the understanding that is developing between Dave Bordman and Nathan Cartman and with the introduction of Alex Hallam coming through from midfield they are a threat. Another bonus is the return of Danny Cooper from a long term injury. Miller is seeking some consistency now, starting tomorrow against Staveley.
