Terrier on the Terraces: Season on a knife edge

With only one sequence of back-to-back victories in the Championship (and an FA Cup defeat to Reading in between those) in that time, now would be a good time for Town to record successive victories to continue to extend the gap between them and the bottom three.

Town are one of a clutch of sides on 38 points, a hair’s breadth from the top half of the table.

A good run could yet propel the side into the top 10 of the division, and put to bed lingering relegation fears.

The reverse could see the Terriers dragged into the relegation dogfight, even after the good progress under Chris Powell.

It is worth mentioning that there are good sides below Town, who are enduring below par seasons - Brighton, Cardiff, Fulham, and even the doomed-looking Wigan.

Should one or more of those sides start to pick up a run of positive results, it would put more pressure on Town.

Results like the draw at Bournemouth will help the team to realise it can put together a run, especially as it came after the home defeat to Wolves.

A compact-looking side defended well as a unit and, after falling behind, had the spirt to muster an equaliser through James Vaughan.

Unexpected points are more than welcome, especially when they come against the side who lead the way in the division.

Two home matches in four days could set the tone for the rest of the season.

Both Cardiff and Reading have invested heavily and have the benefit of parachute payments, but lie below Town in the table after Saturday’s games.

They are two of the sides you would expect to be doing better, especially Cardiff.

After back-to-back home defeats after a good run, Town will want to put in good performances in front of the home fans.
