Gomersal secure derby triumph over Hartshead

Gomersal earned an impressive 76-run win over local rivals Hartshead Moor to maintain third place in Bradford League Championship B.

Wicketkeeper Jack Seddon smashed an unbeaten 72 which contained seven sixes and five fours as Gomersal posted a score of 260-6.

Jonathan Boynton (58), Adam Greenwood (37) and Josh Fell (37) also weighed in with valuable runs.

Craig Field was again the best of the Hartshead Moor batsmen with an unbeaten 85 as they were restricted to 184-9. James Russell picked up 4-39 for Gomersal.

Spen Victoria slipped to a fourth defeat of the season as they went down by eight wickets.

Spen’s batsmen struggled against the bowling of Bradley Drake (3-31) and Michael Carroll (3-43) as they were bowled out for 128, despite the efforts of Evan Edwards (39) and Alex Leadbeater (30).

Hopton eased to victory inside 31 overs with Andrew Grey (43no) and Chris Scott (36no) leading the way and Louren Steenkamp chipping in with a useful 25.

Townville made it six wins from six after defeating Bankfoot by 74 runs to maintain a 26-point lead over Methley.

Jonathan Booth (71) and Tim Walton (68) helped Townville post 234-9 before Jack Hughes produced a match-winning spell of 6-10 as they dismissed Bankfoot for 160.

Methley also earned maximum points from a 128-run win at Carlton.

Captain Grant Soames (56) top scored in Methley’s 233-9 before Carlton were bowled out for 105 as Sohail Raz (4-36), Marcus Walmsley (3-3) and Mafokeng (3-42) impressed.

Crossbank Methodists slipped to a 95-run defeat at the hands of Conference promotion chasers Great Preston last Saturday.

Great Preston reduced Buttershaw St Paul’s lead to six points after securing a maximum 20 points.

Australian Jackson Freeman was their match winner with a fine all round performance.

Freeman top scored with an unbeaten 102 as Great Preston made 256-6 and followed up with 4-30 as Crossbank were dismissed for 161. Their top scorer was James Coulborn (39).

Buttershaw St Paul’s recorded a six-wicket win at East Ardsley, who were bowled out for 76 with Kevin McDermott (4-9) and Tosh Baker (4-16) setting up the win.

Third-placed Northowram Fields also picked up 20 points after Zafar Khan (5-44) and Jonathan Lee (3-8) helped dismiss Gildersome for 131 in a 133-run win.

Khan earlier made an unbeaten 51 as he and John Lister (51no) helped their side post 264-7.

East Leeds were dismissed for 98 in a four-wicket defeat by Wakefield St Michael’s, Azaad edged a narrow two-wicket win over Oulton after dismissing their opponents for 99, while Robert Young hit 50 and took 4-39 for Rodley but still ended up on the losing side as his team went down by 124 runs at Adwalton.

Adwalton made 238-9 before bowling out Rodley for 114.
