Heaton bowlers shine in Priestley Cup

Heaton have been drawn at home in the last four but must wait on their opponents as inquiries continue regarding the quarter-final tie between Bankfoot and Bradford & Bingley.

Congs openers Nick Lindley and Gareth Phillips put on 44 before Heaton took control, with all 10 wickets falling for 43 runs.

John Carruthers produced a superb spell of 4-16 from his 10 overs, David Stiff chipped in with 2-14 from 10, while Gary Fellows took 2-20.

Heaton cruised to a nine-wicket win as Montcin Hodge made an unbeaten 43 in his final game for the Bennett Lane club before returning home having been selected for a Caribbean Twenty20 tournament.

Second division Bankfoot produced one of the biggest shocks in years by beating Bradford & Bingley by six wickets but they are facing further inquiries regarding eligibility of Bankfoot’s overseas player Ankit Rawat.

Division One leaders Woodlands crashed out at the hands of Lightcliffe.

Woodlands appeared on course to reach the semis when Lightcliffe were reduced to 53-5 and 131-7 in reply to the Woodlands total of 205-8.

Oliver Robinson then produced a magnificent 97-ball innings as he finished 99 not out, hitting 12 fours along the way to steer his side to victory.

Sam Frankland (40), Simon Mason (26) and Usman Salim (25) were the leading Woodlands scorers but although Grant Soames claimed 3-29 and Frankland 3-65, Lightcliffe produced a thrilling run chase to seal victory.

Pudsey St Lawrence make up the semi-finalists after beating Manningham Mills.

Priestley Cup semi-finals (to be played July 14): Hanging Heaton v Bankfoot or Bradford & Bingley, Pudsey St Lawrence v Lightcliffe.

Priestley Shield semi-finals (July 14): New Farnley v Woodlands, Baildon v Hanging Heaton or Lightcliffe (playing this Sunday).
