Lower Hopton were edged out 2-1 at home to Carlton Athletic in the West Riding County Challenge Cup third round last Saturday.

Hopton were well in the game at half-time after Luke Peacock’s goal helped them go into the break level at 1-1.

Carlton grabbed the only goal of the second half to secure their passage into the fourth round, with Liam Moore and Dennis Kataro on target for the visitors.

Howden Clough are flying the flag as the only local side through to the fourth round after they beat Elland United 5-4 to set up a trip to Oxenhope Recreation on January 3.

Local interest in the West Riding County Challenge Trophy was ended at the third round stage with three remaining sides bowing out.

Gawthorpe suffered a 5-1 defeat at Hunslet Club, Dewsbury Rangers went down 3-1 at home to Wetherby Athletic and Hartshead lost 4-2 at Honley.

n Overthorpe Sports lost an exciting top of the table clash with Ventus/Yeadon Celtic 3-1 in the West Riding County Amateur League Division One.

Overthorpe dominated the early stages, with a long range James Wilson effort brilliantly saved by the Celtic goalkeeper.

Jack Allerton got the goal that the Sports richly deserved with a fine strike following a neat flick from Ashley Hill.

Veteran goalkeeper Sean Naylor kept the Sports lead intact with some excellent saves before hesitancy in defence let Ventus equalise just before half-time.

The second half saw Ventus take complete control but the Sports battled hard with youngsters Krissy Angus and Reece Patterson working hard and the pace of Allerton a constant threat.

Ventus scored with a calm finish before poor marking at a corner late in the game saw the visitors seal the points with a free header at the far post.

The Sports get an early chance to avenge this defeat as they face Ventus away this Saturday.

n Joe Jagger bagged a hat-trick as Littletown recorded a 3-2 victory over Tyersal at Beck Lane.

Victory saw Littletown climb away from the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division relegation zone and move above Hunsworth, who lost 1-0 at home to Huddersfield YMCA.

Littletown Reserves won 7-2 at Tyersal in Division Two thanks to a brace apiece from Ateek Hussain and Stanford Bube plus one each by Mohammed Mahmood, Shane Hughes and Joe Broadhead.
