Jowitt praises Rams superb efforts

Dewsbury were the better side for long periods and deserved their 24-18 lead going into the final 10 minutes but three late tries from the visitors secured a 34-24 win.

Jowitt said: “That was our best performance of the season and outweighs the Keighley game, even though we won that.

“Inexperience again cost us in the final 10 minutes, when we went away from our game plan and mistakes came in.”

The game hinged on a crucial period around the 65th minute when Austin Buchanan intercepted a pass and raced 80 metres only to be hauled down in front of the posts by Rob Worrincy.

Buchanan appeared to be held down in the tackle, allowing the Fax defence vital seconds to recover.

Dewsbury spread the ball right and a Halifax defender came out of the line and knocked the ball down. Patch Walker picked it up and dived over for the try only for referee Clint Sharrad to disallow it and award Dewsbury the penalty.

Fax recovered and broke up the other end to score and level matters, before adding two further late tries to secure victory.

Jowitt added: “Naivety again came into it and if we had taken the two points on offer from the penalty, that would have put us eight points up and it would have given Halifax a mountain to climb.

“Halifax would have been playing catch up and that is when sides panic and errors creep in.

“That said, I thought Patch Walker’s try was a try all day long and should have been given.

Dewsbury now turn their attentions to next Friday’s clash away to York City Knights.
