Junior riders shine for Heckmondwike

Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway’s junior riders produced two impressive displays to register victories over Bury and Hull.

In the under-13s match at Bury, Tom Whitwam scored a maximum 16 points and Connor Hinde-Marsden 15 as Heckmondwike recorded a 72-48 victory.

They followed that up with a 40-36 success against Hull as Whitwam again registered a maximum 16 points and Will Naylor 10.

n Heckmondwike’s senior team fought well in their home game against Bury until the midway stages.

Darren Kent took a tumble in his first heat, dropping valuable points and although Heckmondwike battled on, Bury sealed an 82-67 win.

Heckmondwike only had two senior riders for last Sunday’s trip to Hull and had to include all their junior members to make up the team.

Richard Wells suffered a broken thumb in his first heat and eight-year-old Bella Naylor had to substitute him for two races. Heckmondwike went on to suffer a 103-47 defeat.
