FOOTBALL and rugby matches on council-managed pitches in Kirklees this weekend have been postponed.
A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said heavy rain over the last few days had resulted in the pitches being saturated and in an unplayable condition.
The forecast is for more very wet and windy weather over the weekend and the decision has been taken to call off all matches.
She said that safety inspections will be made by grounds maintenance staff and there will be an extra effort to prepare the pitches for fixtures the following weekend.
A number of clubs who have privately owned grounds are expected to hold pitch inspections prior to their matches and supporters are advised to check with the respective clubs before setting off.
