Local lads picked for BARLA Lions

Reece Parker and Will Gaunt of Shaw Cross Sharks are joined in the squad by Brad Delaney of Dewsbury Moor and Alex Addy of Dewsbury Celtic.

The Lions will take on Czech Youth today (Thursday) and meet the Czech University Students on Sunday before competing in the Pardubice Nines 24 hours later.

Shaw Cross Sharks moved a point clear at the top of National Conference League Division Two last Saturday following a terrific 16-4 win over Waterhead.

Wingers Tom Stuckley and Danny Howard scored first half tries, with a Ryan Glynn conversion putting Shaw Cross 10-0 up at half-time.

Waterhead hit back through Scott Beswick but the Sharks sealed victory when stand-off Andrew Fawkes darted over and Glynn converted.

The Sharks moved top after East Leeds beat previous leaders Ovenden 28-10 to move second, a point behind Cross with two games in hand.

Cross travel to Normanton Knights on Saturday.

Dewsbury Celtic battled out an 18-18 draw at Elland and they are fourth, four points behind the Sharks with two games in hand.

Danny Thomas scored his second try six minutes from full-time and Nikki Crabtree landed his third goal to ensure Celtic earned a draw.

Crabtree scored Celtic’s other try after scores from Ben Harris (two) and Rhys Webb, together with three Phil Taylor goals, had given Elland the advantage.

Celtic host lowly Eastmoor Dragons on Saturday.

Shaw Cross Sharks A team gained a first win of the season in the Yorkshire Mens League Premier Division when they defeated Bradford Dudley Hill 18-12 last Saturday. Cross A travel to Skirlaugh Bulls this week.

Dewsbury Celtic A team’s Group Six clash at Greetland All Rounders was postponed.

Last Friday’s scheduled matches in the HB Clark Seniors Touch Rugby competition moved to Monday.

Staincliffe defeated Shaw Cross 6-4 in the battle of two leading sides.

J Roadnight bagged a hat-trick for Staincliffe, with J Maloney, G Pritchard and R Toole also crossing.

M Chapman replied with a hat-trick for Cross and he is the competition’s leading scorer. R Patnelli also crossed.

Dewsbury Celtic scored from the last play of the game to earn a 4-4 draw against and Thornhill.

P Cummins (two), J Jennings and Francis Cummins crossed for Celtic after T Harris, D Thornton (two) and J Doughty had scored for Thornhill.

Partners and Butchers Arms recorded their first wins of the competition.

Partners (D Hague, G Roberts, M Senior and J Donnachie) beat Batley Boys (S McManus and P Grogan) 4-2.

C Berry, S Pryce, A Berry and D Hopkins scored two tries each and T Loane one as Butchers Arms beat Dewsbury Moor 9-6.

Thornhill Trojans held their presentation evening last Friday when awards were handed out by Phil Rayner and Sharon Green.

Jake Wilson collected three first team awards as he was players player of the year, player of the year, while he also scooped the Flat Top Twitchers man of steel.

Supporters player of the year was Scott Green, Jake Ratcliffe received most improved player, while a special coaches award went to Anthony Broadhead.
