Moor exit cup after brave effort

DEWSBURY Moor produced a spirited effort but lacked the strength and pace to hold a powerful Queens side in the last 16 of the BARLA National Cup.

Queens, the holders, were given an early advantage when Moor lost the ball on their line from the kick-off.

From the scrum Queens moved the ball quickly and scored the opening try and soon added another to ease any nerves.

Moor tried to get into the game but again felt the strength of the Leeds side.

Moor’s 17-year-old full-back J Riding made a cracking break and Dyson and Peter Robinson supported for James Eatherly to grab the try and Andy Robinson added the goal.

This lifted the Moor and they had a good spell with O’Brian standing out.

He split the home defence with a good run only to be held just short as he was denied a second try for the visitors.

Moor again lost the ball and Queens added to their total.

After coach Dean Lawford’s half-time team talk Moor looked a much better side in the second half but missed a number of good chances.

Although Pennine League Premier Division leaders Queens added to their tally, they were made to work hard for their scores.

Andy Robinson, Peter Robinson and Jackson impressed up front for Moor but their top player was Riding, with a number of try-saving tackles and good clearing runs, closely followed by O’Brian.
