Moor keep pressure on title rivals

Dewsbury Moor look to launch an attack against New Earswick in their Pennine League Championship clash.

Victory also leaves Moor level on points with Pennine League Championship leaders Doncaster Toll Bar.

Moor’s defence thwarted New Earswick’s brief second half revival to nil their opponents, while the home side produced some splendid attacking play to keep their supporters entertained.

Adie Moore and Dean Arundel led Moor’s attack and one move allowed Bartley O’Brian to break through and race 30 metres before sending George Croisdale over for the opening try, which Jacob Flathers converted.

Hooker Cameron Bruce was also a handful, supported by props Phil Shotton and Danny Wardman.

Peter Robinson and brother Andrew linked to provide Croisdale’s second try as Moor led 10-0 at half-time.

Earswick started the second half brightly and were awarded several penalties as they got into a good field position.

Earswick went close but Jordan Foster, Ash Boddy and Brad Foster dug deep to keep them at bay.

Earswick frustrations came to a head when centre Adam Kirby was sent off for back chat.

James Eatherley, Alex Jeffs and Jonjoe Fox made ground which led to Croisdale completing his hat-trick, with Moore converting.

Dewsbury Moor A were edged out 13-10 at Halton Moor Storm in Division Six East.

Moor included 10 players under the age of 20 and produced a solid performance against the high fliers.

Halton’s first try was an interception which saw them race 90 metres but full-back Cameron Adleigh replied with an unconverted try for Moor, reducing the half-time deficit to 6-4.

James Hammill crashed over for a converted try between the posts early in the second half and Moor piled on the pressure looking to make the game safe.

Halton capitalised on a loose pass to move the length of the field for a try, with the conversion edging them ahead before a late drop goal sealed a hard-fought win for the home side.

Batley Boys suffered a 36-16 defeat at home to Bentley Good Companions, losing ground in the Pennine League Championship promotion race.

Defeat leaves the Boys fourth, nine points behind Doncaster Toll Bar and Dewsbury Moor.

Wyke remain second-bottom in Division Two following a 44-14 defeat away to West Craven Warriors, while Wyke A went down 40-12 at Illingworth A in Division Six West.
