Moorlands plot title challenge

MOORLANDS are plotting a sustained title challenge in Central Yorkshire League Division One before departing for pastures new at the end of the season.

The Memorial Park side moved top last week after they thrashed East Ardsley by 139 runs, while previous leaders Ossett lost a remarkable game to Methley A.

Stephen Lane claimed 6-12 for Moorlands but his figures were no match for Ossett’s Shoaib Latif, who claimed all 10 Methley wickets for just 28 runs, including seven lbw’s only for his side to be defeated.

Moorlands travel to Scholes tomorrow knowing victory would keep them top going into next week’s crunch clash at home to Ossett.

Hopton Mills are fourth, six points behind Ossett, and they travel to Buttershaw St Pauls.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers are seventh in the Premier Division after they were rescued by the weather last Saturday as they were reduced to 83-5 in reply to Methley’s 259-3 declared.

Parish face another tough game tomorrow when they travel to Heavy Woollen and Jack Hampshire Cup semi-finalists Townville.

Mirfield Parish A will be bidding to reach the Wheatley Cup semi-finals on Sunday when they try to play their delayed quarter-final tie at home to Liversedge A.

Parish A are second-bottom in Division Two as they entertain Townville A tomorrow, while lie just above the Wellhouse Lane side and they face a tough game at home to promotion chasing Ossett A.

Hanging Heaton are yet to have a blank Sunday and they face another tie this week when they travel to Pudsey Congs in a delayed Priestley Cup quarter-final.

The winners have been drawn away to Manningham Mills in the semi-finals on Sunday July 22.
