Dewsbury Rams have signed Bradford Bulls winger, centre or full-back Etu Uaisele on loan for the remainder of the regular season and Championship Shield.

The Rams had tried to keep the signing under wraps until tomorrow but it was leaked on social media this afternoon (Thursday) that Uaisele would be joining the squad.

He will become the first Tongan to represent Dewsbury and Etu is set to train with his new team-mates tomorrow and is in contention for selection for Sunday’s important Heavy Woollen derby at home to Batley Bulldogs.

Etu told the Dewsbury Rams website: “I’m looking for an opportunity to play and showcase my skills and I think this move to Dewsbury will help me to do that.

“I’m really excited to join the club as I get a firm chance to play regular footy, week in, week out.

“I’d like to wish my Bulls team-mates the best of luck in the ‘middle eights’ – I know they’ll do well – but I’m looking forward to an exciting campaign in the shield with the Rams.”

Uaisele played over 30 NRL games in Australia before joining Featherstone Rovers in 2014 and had a loan spell at Sheffield Eagles before signing a two year deal at Bradford, where he has scored nine tries in 16 appearances this season.

Rams coach Glenn Morrison added: “I’ve known Etu from back in Australia and I’ve kept tabs with him over here.

“He’s a quality player who has become available and I’m delighted to have been able to bring him here for Sunday’s game and then the Super 8s.

“We picked up some injuries at Whitehaven on Sunday, and some serious ones last night (against Leigh), so it’s good that we’ve been able to get him in to cover and strengthen our squad for our next big push.”

Morrison slammed the Championship fixture schedule which has forced Dewsbury to play three games in a week on three separate occasions this season. Full story in tomorrow’s Dewsbury Reporter.
