President Thomas Bach told the International Olympic Committee’s session on Sunday that a decision had yet to be taken on whether or not to lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee ahead of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
The IOC’s executive board met on Saturday but Bach said a decision on the Russian suspension would be made during Sunday’s session after members heard an implementation group report on the Olympics Athletes of Russia delegation.
Bach said: “It is up to the IOC executive board to take a decision on a potential partial, or full, lifting of the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee.
“The IOC executive board has not yet taken a decision. We have a proposal, a recommendation to make to the session. I will present it after we have heard the report of the implementation group.
“Nicole Hoevertsz will present the report of the implemenation group and then the IOC executive board will fulfil its obligation and take the decision on this issue.”
