Octopush players raise money for Sport Relief

Batley Junior Octopush players completed a challenge to raise money for Sports Relief with 20 players working in five relay teams swimming lengths underwater.

They raised £163 by people guessing how many lengths they would swim in total in 30 minutes and followed the theme of ‘let’s get moving’ for Sports Relief, with parents helping with the counting.

The final total was 430, 25 metre lengths in 30 minutes. The nearest guess was 429 and the winner received a £10 voucher.

One of Batley’s younger players, 17-year-old Fiona Maynard, has just been selected for the GB Elite Ladies who will attend the World Underwater Hockey Championships in Quebec, Canada in July.

The club have players at the club from aged eight to 18 years old plus an adult team

Training sessions are held on Sundays at 5pm for Under-16 year olds and anyone is welcome to attend to give it a try, although children should be able to confidently swim 10 lengths and touch the bottom of the pool in the deep end.

An adult team also meet on Thursday evenings.
