Broughton, 32, is a product of the Leeds Rhinos Academy but made his top-flight debut during a loan spell at Hull FC and can add pace and power to the Bulldogs back-line next campaign.

He joined Salford Red Devils in 2010 and spent four years at the club, making 99 appearances before joining Huddersfield Giants ahead of the 2014 campaign. Broughton spent two seasons at the Giants before agreeing a contract with French outfit Catalans Dragons.

The winger spent four years in the south of France but dropped out of Super League to sign for Halifax ahead of the 2020 season. It was announced earlier this month that Broughton would leave Halifax after the Championship campaign was cancelled.

Broughton has over 200 top-flight games and 120 tries to his name. Signing a player of such experience was only made possible by the support of the Batley Independent Supporters Squadbuilder Association.

“The signing is made possible thanks to the support of BISSA, who continue to back the players on the field by raising monies via monthly membership, yearly donations, and fundraising via various means,” read a club statement.

“If you aren’t a member please consider joining , as over the last 15 years, BISSA have supported over 130 players who have helped the club progress and improve on the field. To learn more visit bissa.co.uk.”

Meanwhile, former Super League hooker Ben Kaye has joined Batley Bulldogs to provide competition for Alistair Leak who has also re-signed for the club.

The 31-year-old from Morley made his professional debut with Leeds Rhinos, scoring a try against Harlequins RL in 2008. He joined the London-based club in 2009 before signing for Featherstone Rovers a year later.

Kaye stayed at Rovers until 2013 when he joined Halifax ahead of the 2014 campaign, making over 100 appearances for the West Yorkshire club.

The 31-year-old has made over 200 career appearances since his debut 12 years ago, scoring 24 tries.
