Having suffered just one defeat during the winter season, Mirfield ran out impressive 18-2 victors against runners-up Queensbury in a winner-takes-all showdown to decide who would clinch the silverware.

Club secretary Matt Wood and captain Reece Spurr attended the awards evening at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel, where they picked up the trophy.

Mirfield also scooped fair play club of the year, having successfully completed campaigns in two Pennine League divisions, with the Stags’ Academy clinching a third-place finish, pushing eventual champions and local rivals Birkenshaw all the way.

Stags managing director Ryan Sparks, pictured with the silverware, said: “We are all very proud of what the boys have achieved since the club was born just a couple of years ago now.

“Our desire to field two teams during the winter season was questioned by several people but we stuck to our word, completed both campaigns in some style and achieved way more than we could ever have dreamed of.

“To claim a league title is very special, particularly after going so close last summer, losing out in a Grand Final.

“Our success is testament to the hard work people put in, both on the frontline and behind the scenes.

“The night we won the trophy was fantastic. To have over 450 at Hillrich Park to see the team seal the title was fantastic.

“We are all now looking forward to kicking on with our summer campaign and enjoying a strong season at all levels, as the club continues to grow and develop.”

The Stags return to Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division action on Saturday, travelling to York.
