THORNHILL bowed out of the Pennine President’s Cup against Yorkshire Cup winners Sharlston.

Ex-Dewsbury player Wayne McHugh scored the first try but after Scott Green had an effort disallowed for Thornhill, the Trojans drew level with two Andrew Bates penalties.

Sharlston regained the lead when Gareth Davies capitalised on a knock-on to gather the loose ball and score.

Tom Wandless then scooted over from a quickly taken tap penalty and Green was sin-binned for protesting but it was while down to 12 men that Thornhill scored their first try as Danny Ratcliffe crossed to make it 12-8 at half-time.

McHugh scored a superb 80 metre try for Rovers and Dean Gamble then crossed, with Wandless converting, before Adam Bird replied with a late consolation for the Trojans.
