Rangers record emphatic win over title rivals Pack

DEWSBURY Rangers recorded an emphatic 9-1 win over Heavy Woollen League Division Two title rivals FC Pack Horse last Sunday.

Jordan Pugh (hat-trick), Jamie Beaver (brace), Danny Preston, Ben Mitchell, Danny Laidlaw and Tom Swailes struck for Rangers, who then beat Rising Sun Liversedge 5-2 on Tuesday.

Pack Horse are three points behind Rangers with a game in hand after they bounced back with a 2-1 win over Hightown on Tuesday.

FC Woodman’s top-two hopes were dented on Tuesday when they were held to a 2-2 draw at St Ignatius.

Matthew Brackenbury netted for Marsh last Sunday but they went down 3-1 at home to fifth-placed Gomersal, who remain fifth despite Tuesday’s 2-1 success over Taylor.

Marsh were held 1-1 by fellow strugglers Battyeford Reserves on Tuesday but it wasn’t enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

Nigel Savington and Jason Evans both fired hat-tricks as Battyefordbeat Rising Sun 7-3 last Sunday. Simon Farlow hit the other, with Tom Bentley (brace) and Danny Gannon replying for Sun.

Liversedge Albion eased themselves away from the drop zone last Sunday after Ashley March and Dean Murphy netted in a 2-0 win at St Ignatius.

Railway East Ardsley moved two points clear of Batley Irish Nash at the top of Division Three on Tuesday after a 3-2 win at St John Fisher Reserves.

Railway had kept in touch with the previous leaders on Sunday after a Sean Hammill brace saw them to a 2-0 win at Heckmondwike Sports Club.

TheNash are very much in the title hunt as they have a game in hand on Railway and also have a far superior goal difference, with the sides set to meet next Tuesday (April 12).

Nash had led the way going into Tuesday’s matches, when they were not in action, after hammering bottom side Batley Celtics 15-0 last Sunday.

Sean Housecroft fired six goals, Tony Endeacott hit four and there was one apiece from Carl McCann, Andrew Smith, Phil Irvine, John Brook, plus an own goal.

Celtics look destined to finish bottom of the table after they lost 2-0 at home to Northorpe United on Tuesday.

Barr Street appear to have third place sewn up following back-to-back victories.

They won 4-0 at home to Northorpe United last Sunday as Josh Rodgers (two), Dwayne Wilkinson and Andy Littlewood scored.

They then overcame West End Rangers 2-0 on Tuesday to move 13 points clear of fourth placed Fisher, who had beaten Queens Hotel 5-3 last Sunday.

Dominic Simpson hit a double for Fisher, with Andrew Riordan, Andy Hirst and Paul Smith completing the tally.

Matthew Softley (two) and Ryan Burton replied for Queens.

Sean Hodgson and Sam Ratcliffe put Overthorpe Town Reserves in control of last Sunday’s clash with Thornhill, who replied through Adam Nicholls to set up a frantic finish before Overthorpe hung on for a 2-1 win.

Overthorpe have moved fourth-bottom, a point clear of Queens Hotel, with two games in hand.

Queens slipped to successive defeats as they followed up Sunday’s loss to Fisher with a 1-0 reverse at second-bottom Snowden on Tuesday.

Thornhill slipped to fifth place after a 3-2 defeat to Crown Leeds Road Reserves on Tuesday.

West End Rangers had Alistair Drew and Ashley Barnes to thank as they won 2-1 against Snowden (Mohammed Bulbulia) last Sunday.
