Rimmington plotting Sedge's Great Escape

Liversedge manager Jonanthan Rimmington believes his side are capable of mounting a survival bid.

Sedge are currently bottom of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division but have a stack of games in hand on their rivals following a horrendous run of postponed fixtures.

Everyone at the club are keeping their fingers crossed that Saturday’s game at home to Pontefract Collieries (ko 3pm) beats the weather as Sedge have not played at Clayborn since October 31.

Rimmington knows the task facing his squad but remains upbeat that they can beat the drop.

Rimmington told the Spenborough Guardian: “This is a very young team but I am sure we can compete in the next two years if we can keep them together.

“We want to stay up and believe we are a top-12 team.

“We have a tough run of games coming up but we won’t go into any of them thinking we are underdogs.

“I believe we can give anyone in this league a game, whether it be at Sedge or away.

“We battered Parkgate for 70 per cent of the game last Saturday but a couple of defensive mistakes cost us.”

Rimmington has seen several players tempted away from the club, due to them not playing regularly, but was able to welcome back former Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Christian Thewliss, after a six month injury lay-off, against Parkgate.

Rimmington added: “Not playing is very frustrating for me and the players.

“We put in a good performance last Saturday and the players were looking forward to playing again on Tuesday but the postponements mean we can get no momentum.”
