Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison admits many of his squad are playing through the pain barrier following a bruising Easter programme.

Several Rams players required pain killing injections to enable them to take to the field for Monday’s game against Sheffield Eagles.

The Rams were rewarded with an impressive 34-16 victory over their full-time opponents as Dewsbury bounced back from their Good Friday defeat to Batley Bulldogs.

Dewsbury play their fourth successive home game this Sunday when Kingstone Press Championship leaders Leigh Centurions are the visitors.

Morrison said: “We have got a lot of busted bodies and put together a makeshift team (against Sheffield) with players playing injured and needled up.

“In the first half we completed at 80-something per cent and when you get even share of the ball we showed what we can do.

“It was a massive game for both teams as Sheffield play Bradford this week and we’ve got Leigh and fortunately we did the job and got the points.”

Joel Farrell was taken off in the first half after suffering a blow to the head against Sheffield but was allowed to return to the action, following the required tests, and was rewarded with a try.

Morrison praised the Jamaican international, saying: “Joel always seems to cop for the head shots but he was able to get back out there.

“He is playing busted with a shoulder injury but he’s playing some good rugby.

“We spoke about beating Sheffield, getting into the top six and taking the confidence into Leigh.

“It is another short turnaround after a couple of big games but we saw the depth in our squad on Monday and hopefully we can put a strong team out against Leigh and put on another good show.”
