Dewsbury raring to go for Lions opener

Morrison was impressed with his side’s all-round attitude and performance in last week’s impressive win over London Broncos.

Speaking after the 34-0 victory, Morrison remarked: “I said to the boys all pre-season that it was about getting things right and results didn’t matter but before the London game, I said we wanted to get the performance but also the result and put a marker down and I think we definitely did that.

“We weren’t playing one-out football and played some good rugby. We had a good shape and people hitting the right holes and I thought we controlled the ball and controlled the game.

“Defensively we were outstanding and to nil a full-time side like London is a big thing to do.

“The boys spoke about keeping them to nil at half-time and not letting them off the hook and we held solid early in the second half and were able to go up the other end and score.”

Morrison was also delighted with the displays of two of his new signings with half-back Ben Reynolds and prop Tony Tonks both impressing in their first appearances for the Rams.

Morrison added: “We have some quality boys who are not going to get picked in the 17 (for Swinton) but if we want to do anything at the end of the season we will need quality in depth and I think we have got that.

“Reynolds pulled the strings well and Tonksy got us going forward and was a big handful. Him and Matt Groat rotating can lay a platform for us, as well as young Jack Teanby, who gave another man-of-the-match performance for us and signed on for next year, so he is happy here.”

The Rams Reserves were due to meet Keighley Cougars in a pre-season friendly tonight (Thursday) but the match has been postponed.

Repair and maintenance work needs to be carried out on the Tetley’s Stadium pitch before Rams’ first home Championship game against Workington on February 14.
