In jury-hit Rams aim to avoid cup giantkilling act

Dewsbury were down to the bare bones for their Easter games against Halifax and Batley Bulldogs and although a couple of players may return on Sunday (ko 3pm), they have received further bad news.

Hooker Ryan Wright’s ankle injury is worse than first thought and he is now in a brace and walking on crutches.

Brad Watkinson, a centre signed from New Zealand Vulcans, was injured 10 minutes into his home debut against Batley when he was kneed in the back and he is also doubtful for the visit of Myton.

Ben Jones will have a fitness test to see if he can play his first game of the season, Jy-Mel Coleman missed Monday’s derby after suffering a broken nose in the defeat to Halifax, while Anthony Hepworth continues to recover from a broken hand.

With dual registration players unlikely to be released it will be another patched up Rams side that takes to the field against last year’s National Conference Premier Division Grand Finalists.

Coach Glenn Morrison said: “Amateur sides come with no pressure on them and if you don’t bring your A-game you can find yourself getting beat.

“We won’t be taking them easy but I am looking forward to the game and I want to go as far as we can in the cup.

“Clubs across the board are struggling (financially), crowds are down and clubs need the money.

“I want us to go as far as we can for the players and the club and it would be great to get a good draw in the next round. We have played three of the top four teams and it’s been a tough month but we will look to get a win that will get our confidence back.”
