Batley Bulldogs second row Sam Scott and full-back Miles Greenwood have received Kingstone Press Championship accolades this week.
Both players were instrumental in Batley’s last-gasp 28-24 victory at Keighley Cougars last Sunday, a result which moved the Bulldogs back into the Championship play-off places.
Scott was named Kingstone Press player of the week after scoring a brace of tries, while Greenwood’s dramatic last minute touchdown was named try of the week.
Scott’s display earned praise from coach John Kear, who said: “Sam was a handful every time he carried the ball, but defensively he was also very strong.
“He came up with some crucial plays at crucial times and not just scoring two tries.
“He regathered a short kick-off to give us a good attacking platform, and provided the line break pass that set up our winning try. His work rate was very high, and very high quality, throughout.”
On Greenwood’s match-winning try, Kear added: “Keighley actually had the ball from a penalty kick to touch but a very aggressive defensive shot from Josh Griffin dislodged the ball, and my players maintained their composure.
“We then put on a lovely shift play through the halfbacks, Sam Scott took the ball right to the line and put Lee Paterson through a gap.
“Miles Greenwood was supporting, as he always does, to finish the winning try. What I liked so much was that it had a defensive aspect to it as well.”
