Sharks hit back to defeat Knights and close gap at top

The Sharks trailed 10-4 at half-time but hit back to record their fifth win of the season.

Aiden Chandler scored their only first-half try but further scores from Derrell Olpherts (two), Andrew Fawkes, Danny Flowers and Shaun Squires, who also added three conversions, sealed victory.

n Dewsbury Celtic suffered a 38-16 defeat at Hunslet Warriors in Division One despite tries from Bartley O’Brien, Dave Adleigh, Danny Crabtree and Mike Foulstone but it wasn’t enough against an impressive Warriors.

n Birstall Victoria play their first Yorkshire Men’s League game on Saturday when they host Moldgreen, Shaw Cross Sharks entertain Scarborough Pirates B and Heavy Woollen play Hunslet Parkside Academy. Thornhill Trojans opponents Walton Warriors have withdrawn from the league without playing a game.

n BARLA Under-17s take on Shaw Cross Under-18s in a charity match in aid of injured Sharks player Ryan Glynn on Monday at Leeds Road (noon), while BARLA Under-18s meet Dewsbury Moor Under-18s, also on Monday at noon.

n Dewsbury Moor are also staging a fundraising event for their injured player Connor Squires this Saturday, when over 20 teams are expected to take part in a touch rugby tournament from 11am. Further details are available from Jordan Moorhouse on 07582 448433.
