Walsh pulled out of the proposed February 15 fight against the Dewsbury star with a hand injury but the Board this week sanctioned the British and Commonwealth super featherweight showdown to take place at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday April 12.

A delighted Sykes said: “I had the wind taken out of my sails when the original fight was called off but this news has given me the spring back in my step and I am ready to ramp things up again.”

Ticket and travel details for the fight will be announced in due course.
