Trojans earn fine midweek success

Anthony Broadhead turned in a superb display last Wednesday as leaders Thornhill Trojans won their Pennine League Division Three top two clash at Dudley Hill A.

Prop James Folan again put in the hard yards and a dominant display saw Scott Woodcock named MoM while substitute Simon Walker made a big impact.

The first half was a tight affair but Thornhill struck when Broadhead sent Dale Brook over for an unconverted try.

Hill responded as neat passing saw Kenny Smitty touch down and Simon Sewell converted before a Broadhead charge set up the chance for Scott Woodcock to power over for a try which Mark Hodgson improved.

Thornhill second row Simon Nelson threw a punch and was sent to the sin-bin and Hill took advantage as Leon Donovan followed up a kick to score a try in the corner whichSewell converted.

Hodgson landed a penalty to draw Thornhill level 12-12 while after the break a Gaz Walker try goaled by Sewell edged the hosts ahead.

Walker made his presence felt with a strong break which sent Scott Woodcock close before a super Broadhead pass sent Anthony Harris over for a try. Hodgson’s goal tied the scores.

Hill nudged ahead with a converted try but Thornhill replied as Walker took them close before Broadhead put Liam Morley through a gap and over for a try.

Hodgson converted and he was on target twice more late on after a brace of tries from Walker.
